Hello, and Welcome!
It's great that your curiosity has brought you here 💪💪
My name is Khadija Saidi, a public health practitioner from Kenya. Although I have a clinical background in providing patient care in hospital settings, I have developed a deep interest in human health and the factors that influence it outside of the clinical setting. Given the increases in health crises and health security threats such as pandemics, the climate crisis, and conflict, there is a pressing need to focus on the biomedical and biosocial influences on health. It is, therefore, not surprising that there are increased calls for partnership and collaboration across sectors to improve health for all and mitigate numerous health threats.
In line with this, I thought it fitting to contribute to global health efforts by creating a resource hub for knowledge sharing. I founded the Afya Bora Hub with the vision of promoting information exchange between health practitioners and researchers and their counterparts in health-determining sectors such as education, agriculture, and energy, among others. This spans both humanitarian and development contexts.
You might be wondering, what is "Afya Bora"? This is the Swahili phrase for "Better Health." The Afya Bora Hub is a resource-sharing platform inspired by global efforts to achieve the aims of Sustainable Development Goal 3: Health and Wellbeing. Therefore, expect to see blogs, articles, podcasts, and links to public events related to global health and the social determinants of health on this hub. I take my time and use my expertise to not only share insights as a practitioner but also curate content that reflects emerging trends in the global health space from other experts.
Due to my professional background and the nature of the external content I interact with, I have to admit that the posts I share may lean heavily on themes related to health systems strengthening, the humanitarian-development-peacebuilding nexus, disaster risk management, and the health of vulnerable populations (women, children, and adolescents). Nevertheless, I will strive to vary the topics, include cross-cutting themes, and consider low, middle, and high-income contexts to cater to a broad audience.
Caveat: This is a passion project, hence the views I express here are primarily my own, irrespective of the organizations I may be working with or have worked with previously. This also applies to the choice of featured external content. I do not receive any funding or sponsorship to share the content on this platform at present. However, I am open to partnering with like-minded individuals to share content on this platform at my own discretion. Feedback to improve the content on the hub is also welcome (please be kind)!
Feel free to engage with the content, share your thoughts, and provide feedback to help us grow together.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this hub!
